User Research

This was created during the summer of 2024 when everyone was curious as to what their MBTI was. However, with the 16 different choices and the long descriptions for them all, many individuals felt unsure about what choices to make. Furthermore, many were skeptical that a combination of 4 letters could really depict you as a person. With that in mind, my friends and I decided it’d be a fun idea to create a lighthearted test that was quick and easy, but also gave you a result and a description similar to the original MBTI quiz.

Research Findings

Any person at any age can take the MBTI quiz. Furthermore, your result will never truly be set in stone. But, it’s generally encouraged to take this test between the ages 13-18, but ideally after 18. During this time, my team and I noticed there was an influx of new persona quizzes showing up left and right. Ranging from “What cake are you?” to something like “What planet are you you?” they all had the same idea, yet our generation loved it because they were able to compare with their friends and enjoy taking a short, yet visually appealing quiz.

Ideation

During development, we identified several key considerations and challenges:

The ideation, along with the final project was very simple. It had a straightforward layout from beginning to end that users could understand.

We began by evaluating the sizing and layout of our project to ensure the site was responsive and accessible across different devices, including both phones and laptops. For the typography, we prioritized readability while choosing a style that felt lighthearted and appropriate for a teenage audience. The narrative was inspired by the classic “chicken crossing the road” joke, giving it a playful and familiar tone. Once the storyline was finalized, I designed a variety of results, each paired with a unique image and a color scheme that reflected the personality of each egg. Understanding that people often focus on their flaws, we intentionally highlighted users’ positive traits, what we called their “nutrients” as the focal point of the result, aiming to create an uplifting and affirming experience.

Conclusion

This was my first personal project, so I hold it dear to my heart. It was my first time designing something from start to finish, and being involved in every single step. From drawing the pixel art eggs to studying different MBTI types, even creating the results and figuring out the color schemes that matched every egg, even though you can only do so much with a white and yellow item, was truly rewarding, and I think this project is what piqued my interest in UI Design.
